All About Pressed Flower Art

How do I press flowers?

I am using larkspur to demonstrate my pressing technique here:

Cut all blooming flowers off the stem and carefully pick leaves off, too. Lay flowers and leaves on a piece of paper. Placing flowers face-down works the best. Scratch the outer tissue or "skin" off of one side of the stems and place them on the paper. Scrap computer paper can be used here.

Sandwich the sheets of paper holding the flowers between two pieces of foam and place them in the flower press. (The flowers should not touch the foam.)  You can have a maximum of seven layers of flowers in a press.

Secure press with the wing nuts and place it into an air-tight box with a layer of silica gel on the bottom. If you sandwich the flowers between sheets of desiccant board, they will dry even faster.
